    This is part of my large collection of James Murphy personal letters and
    Ephemera going back to the late 1800's.
    Mr. Murphy was an influential member (assistant to the secretary) of the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington D.C. for many decades beginning at the turn of the early 1900's.
    Many of his letters dealt with his interactions with government officials, many in a political matter.
    What did the Interstate Commerce Commission do?
    Approved on February 4, 1887, the Interstate Commerce Act created an Interstate Commerce Commission to
    oversee the conduct of the railroad industry
