    Description

Offered is an original printed flyer for a spurious silent movie invitation-only "event" to be held on Tuesday, June 17, 1924, for a film "Under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edison". It is for a feature film titled "As We Were" as was, we believe, a benefit for Mr. and Mrs. John E. Sloane (Mrs. Sloane was Edison's daughter Madeleine) and would be "supported by a cast of well known stars" appearing in "..the exciting, exhilarating, throbbing and vibrating film..." . 6" x 9", no faults. The event was held at Glenmont, Llewellyn Park located in West Orange, New Jersey. The handbill promises that "..Many of the cast will positively appear in person" and that the curtain will rise promptly at 9:30 PM. The dates 1914-1924 represent the 10 years of marriage for Madeleine and John Eyre Sloane and it is believed that whatever this event actually was, it was held for their 10th anniversary hosted by Thomas Edison and his wife.  These original flyers came from the personal scrapbooks of Madeleine Edison Sloane, a collection we previously handled. Guaranteed original piece from 1924. SEE THE SCAN AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE CONTINUING.
