    Description

    I have started a new YIP2 line based on the Alamblak hook figures that I've seen done by the Yipwon peoples of the Middle Sepik region of Papua New Guinea.
    Each mug or bowl that I do in this YIP2 series will be a

    unique' one-of-a-kind mug or bowl using these same figures. In these creations I am using both cast and hand built parts combined together. To come up with the unique figures, I start off with a fresh canvas consisting of two raw cast parts which are then manipulated, cut into, and rearranged. Then using a low-fire clay I hand build elements that get added into the canvas cast pieces. Finally, the pieces are texturized - each according to their characteristics - and readied for the bisque and glaze firings. In the end, the added processes are a labor of love.
    Artist Statement: With the "Tiki Revival" in mind, this (YIP2 mug, or bowl) was designed with the intention to be technically challenging, yet simplistic. The design should allow the cocktail and any garnish to become part of the overall look. The goal was to have the mug harmonize, or, even look better with whatever garnish is chosen.
    This mug is
    number 18
    in the YIP2 series. It h
    olds 12 oz of liquid, and it is approx. 7 5/8”
    tall.
    Experience the numb. Let your imagination loose. Babalu - (note: the garnish shown was for display only
    )
    Good luck and happy bidding!
