    Description

Carro Balestra Model- 1969 Xerox Competition Da Vinci Weapon
Rare 1483 Da Vinci Carro Balestra Model.
Wooden scale model of Leonardo Da Vinci’s war weapon, basically a truck-sized crossbow for catapulting anything that fit in the pad. Wooden construction with metal strapping and iron wheels. Its wooden body measures 16.5” long by 4” wide.
The width from outside edge of wheel to wheel is 6”.  The width of the bow is 11”. This model is missing its rope and leather pad, as well as one of the spars from the winding wheel.
It has a brass plaque proclaiming “Leonardo Da Vinci Carro Balestra 1483.”
Supposedly it is an entrant from the 1969 XEROX Company competition for hand-made models of the 15th century inventions.  It is apparently identical to the model that won that competition’s National Award.  However, I have seen a record of the sale of that model, and this is not that model.
    The brass plaque looks identical.
It has been in my family for many years after being acquired at a flea market.
    Look at the photos.
It is gorgeous, sturdy, and rugged-looking.
I recently read a biography of Leonardo, and this is reminiscent of those illustrations of his work, only more appealing.
    Please check all the photos.
    It is
sold as shown and as is. Tracked insured shipping.
