The balsa case is inscribed with gold-gilt characters at the top. The silk padded lid inner is inscribed 造幣局製, Zōheikyoku-sei or Made at the Japan Mint.     The badge has the head of
    Kusunoki Masahige
    a 14th century samurai hero who epitomized loyalty, courage and devotion to the emperor.
    There are four ancient samurai shields in red enamel and four spear heads pockmarked with cherry blossom flower petals.
    Original gold-gilt and red enameled wounded badge.  MADE AT THE JAPAN MINT. The badge is tone labeled War Wound (Sensho) . The red enamels are intact and VERY CLEAN.
