    The
    Order of the Sacred Treasure
    (
    瑞宝章
    ,
    Zuihō-shō
    )
    is a Japanese order,
    established on 4 January 1888 by Meiji Emperor
    as
    the
    Order of Meiji
    . Originally awarded in eight classes (from 8th to 1st, in ascending order of importance). In 2003 lowest two grades were abolished.
    Date: 1930s or early 1940s (before 1942 or so). Lacquered case with latch attest to early date, as does patina on the medal.
    Box: Lacquered with inside lined with purple silk, white metal latch. Inscribed in gold lacquer letters: Merit 8
