    .  Official contemporary copy of the newspaper article from The Cleveland Press published in March 13, 1944 and considered the "worst" leak of the Manhattan Project during World War II.
    NEWSPAPER ARTICLE WAS CONSIDERED THE "WORST" LEAK OF THE MANHATTAN PROJECT, THE CLEVELAND PRESS PUBLISHED IN MARCH 13, 1944
    The newspaper article was the first publication of Los Alamos as a secretive site of the construction of the atomic bomb.  The article reads in part, "Commonly known as Los Alamos, the place is a thoroughly modern city... Thousands believe the professor [Oppenheimer] is directing the development of chemical warfare, so that if Hitler tries poison gas Uncle Sam will be ready with a more terrifying one."  The newspaper article was considered the "worst" leak of the Manhattan Project.
    "[OPPENHEIMER] IS DIRECTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHEMICAL WARFARE, SO THAT IF HITLER TRIES POISON GAS UNCLE SAM WILL BE READY."
    The newspaper article was presented to (likely by Oppenheimer himself) and personally owned by Oppenheimer's assistant, Inez Claire O’Brien.  It was discovered inside O’Brien’s journal; in addition, it is accompanied with photocopies of O’Brien’s Manhattan Project service certificate, U.S. Army discharge papers, and correspondence from Oppenheimer to O’Brien.  The article is three pages, measures 11” by 8.5”, in good condition, and acquired directly from O’Brien’s estate.
    THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE WAS PRESENTED TO (LIKELY BY OPPENHEIMER HIMSELF) AND PERSONALLY OWNED BY OPPENHEIMER’S ASSISTANT
    We were unable to locate any statements associated with the Manhattan Project available for sale at auction in the past 50 years making the present document extremely rare considering it was owned by Oppenheimer and presented to his personal assistant.
