Although Taishō Emperor ascended in 1912, enthronement ceremonies in Japan are held 2-3 years later- sacred rice has to be planted and harvested, elaborate preparations to be made… Medal was issued to people associated with Enthronement planning, or participated in ceremonies. Established by Imperial Edict No. 154, dated August 13, 1915.
Medals were made and awarded starting in November of 1915.
Obverse depicts Imperial Crest, orange and cherry, two banners inscribed, Banzai (10,000 years or long life) (
萬歳
). Reverse features clouds, and is inscribed Enthronement Commemorative Medal, Taishō 4 (1915), November (
大禮記念章
大正四年十一月
).
Date: 1915
Box: Paulownia wood with gold gilt letters:
Enthronement Commemorative Medal (Dairei Kinenshō
大禮記念章
).
Condition: medal oxidized, needs cleaning, miniscule pitting on the silver, ribbon soiled and discolored.
Box with scratches and dents, felt discolored. Minor loss of gold gilt at letters.
