History
At the meeting at General Staff in the middle of November 1942, also present were representatives of Main HQ Croatian, it was agreed, beside the plan for operations in the area of Bosanski Novi - Dvor na Uni to form three divisions and one corps in the area of the 1st Operative Zone Croatia. Immediately after that Main HQ Croatia started with concentration of brigades towards Dvor na Uni where ... and reported it to General Staff on November 22nd 1942. The same day General staff issued order Staff No.95, based on recommendation of Main HQ Croatia, forming 6th Lika, 7th Banija, 8th Kordun divisions and 1st Corps NOV Croatia. Division was formed from 1st, 2nd and 9th Partisan Brigades of Croatia. First commander was Srećko Manola and political commissar Rade Žigić.
At the moment when order of forming 6th division was issued, 1st and 2nd Brigade where at Banija just about to attack Dvor na Uni and 9th Brigade at Bosansko Grahovo. At the end of November 1st and 2nd Brigade assembled at Slunj where reorganization of 1st Brigade was carried out. To make it more compact, Main HQ Croatia issued order No.25 on November 18th with which it disbanded 4th Lika Partisan detachment, after it arrived in Kordun in area of Veljun, and both of its battalions included into 1st Brigade, 'Božidar Adžija' battalion as 3rd and 'Matija Gubec' battalion as 4th. From old 3rd Kordun and 4th Banija battalion of 1st Brigade 15th Partisan Brigade of Croatia was formed. By the same order 1st Brigade political commissar Uroš Krunić was transferred to 7th Banija Brigade at his place come Srđan Brujić, former political commissar of 4th Lika Partisan detachment. Joco Njegomir replaced Jovicu Lončar as brigade operative officer. With these changes 1st Brigade now Assault become also Lika brigade.
