Low fire ceramic hand glazed by Alene with food safe glaze. 2k degrees firing.
We first made chirp chirp over a decade ago, we closed up our ceramics operation 5 years ago when we had kids but started glazing a few of the old mugs that had been sitting in our ceramics cabinet for a long time.
This chirp chirp is one of the first mugs my wife Alene has glazed in the 5 year hiatus! She used to glaze all our older mugs as I only glazed a few versions over the years that were more rustic.
All our mugs we made over the years, my wife and I worked back and forth. Most of them I would draw the design, then I would rough sculpt it out in an hour or so, then Alene would finish sculpt it over the coarse of a week, working here and there. She worked well at refining the shapes and smoothing out design features and we’d work together to make sure it was mold friendly!
We both worked on the mold and I would be in charge of mixing and pouring plaster and building mold walls.
All our mugs we made only had one mold, so we would hand carve back in the details on each one once the mold lost its detail after about the 20th mug. We probably only ever made about 60 of this chirp chirp and the mold is beyond reached its life. We cast a dozen more beginning of summer and it’s apparent, it’s an unusable mold now.
So, we have just this and a few more left but we are keeping some for ourselves bc we never were able to keep our old mugs. A decade ago, we burned the midnight oil to keep the lights on ironically lol
