    Description

True Vintage Tiki Mug hailing from the early Tiki Culture Heydays in Palm Springs California! EXTREMELY RARE!
Aloha Jhoe’s was an upscale tiki bar and restaurant “where the tiki gods are appeased nightly,” located in Palm Springs, CA. Opened in 1961 by restaurateur Milton F. Kreis, the decor was top notch as it was created by Academy Award winning Art Director Lyle Wheeler.
Wheeler was joined by carver and set designer Jim Casey and together they opened what seemed like a small theme park without the rides. Upon entering, there was the huge Royal Tiki God Aloha Jhoe, mythical God of Feast and Cordiality, a mask theme of
elaborate wood carvings was seen throughout the restaurant, all presumably inspired by Wheeler’s work on “South Pacific.”
There was a full Cantonese menu, nightly entertainment and an extensive cocktail menu. For .00 the Orchid Bowl would serve a party of 4, .00 would get you a Zombie (but limit 2), and you could even have your Thanksgiving meal with turkey, egg rolls and shrimp fried rice for .95.
Mug is in great condition with NO CRACKS and vivid ALOHA JHOE'S Artwork on the back!!!
( if you can even ever find one of these out in the wild, the artwork is usually missing or severely faded
) Mug is tall 7 1/4 inches Tall. Please see photos of mug for details. I try to explain all details honestly, but please feel free to ask any other questions. There is a tiny white manufacture bump on the left side of face above corner of lip as well as teeny flea bite on the bottom back side, but this does not take anything away from this well preserved mug in my opinion.
This auction is for MUG ONLY....extra images are attached for historical reference only.
