WOW! ANTIQUE 1800s RARE SALESMAN SAMPLE BUCKEYE BUTTER CHURN FARM, DAIRY, OHIO!
Up for sale is one of the rarest original American salesman samples I have ever seen
. This is a sample of a unique barrel-type concussion butter churn made by the Buckeye company of Carey, Ohio in the late 1800s. It was discovered in a collection of a farmer in Columbus, Ohio, and brought to my collection here in Canada. I am offering this treasure for sale and I would love it if it comes back to its home country. For years of collection salesman samples, I have never seen an example of Buckeye butter churn but I have met many full-size churns made by that company. They look exactly like this salesman's sample, except for some examples lacking decorative elements. I believe this sample is an early example of when the company has started to produce churns with such a unique design. I do not know if any museum or a collector in America even has a similar example. They are that rare! This salesman's sample shows signs of wear and repair. There are some screws that have been replaced with the recent ones by a previous owner, some residue from glue, and one small iron rack with teeth is missing. It has been replaced with a little piece of a plain wooden board. Also, notice that the churn is missing a lid and a little piece that goes inside the barrel. It appears that some metal straps are loose, this is due to the shrinkage of wood that happened within years. In spite of that, this is still an amazing addition to any collection! Original salesman samples of butter churns are extremely hard to find. They were all made by hand and there were not many examples ever produced. Plus, many examples got lost, broken, or destroyed. Even this churn shows signs of repair and restoration, but it still has the original stand, all decorative elements, and I believe also the original paint. The stand used to be assembled together in order to demonstrate the rocking action of the churn. After many years it became shaky and not that stable, so you have to figure out how to prop everything together. I think tightening the screws will help. I just left this example unrestored and uncleaned. Exactly the way it came from the farmer's collection. Since I did not own and operate this sample, I am selling it as is. In my opinion, it is a fantastic example of a rare butter churn salesman sample and a part of American history! I've also included some scans of the promotional documents that I've discovered online. I do not own those documents, but you can find some of them online. This is just to show information about the Buckeye company and its products.
I can send this salesman sample anywhere in the world, but the shipping of is for Canadian and USA customers only. Please ask me first for the rate if you live in a different country.
